FAQs

Have a question? We’re here to help.

While it’s possible to get around Darwin without a car, renting one gives you the freedom to travel at your own pace. This is particularly handy for reaching popular spots like Litchfield and Kakadu National Parks. Having your own car means you can explore remote areas and hidden gems that can be hard to access otherwise.

Airport car rentals sometimes come with extra fees, so renting from a local branch might be cheaper. But many people still choose airport rentals for the convenience. Comparing both options can help you decide what’s best for your budget and plans.

Most rental companies keep high safety standards across their vehicles.  If safety is a priority, look for newer models that come with airbags, anti-lock brakes, and stability control. Larger cars and SUVs are often a good choice, especially if you’re planning to explore more remote or rugged areas.

For exploring Darwin and the surrounding areas, SUVs and 4WDs are top picks due to the tougher roads and outdoor spots. That said, for city driving or shorter trips, many people choose compact or economy cars since they’re easy to drive and park.

If you go over the daily mileage limit stated in your rental agreement, you might be charged an extra fee for each kilometre. Be sure to look at your rental terms so you’re aware of any daily mileage limits and the fees for exceeding them.

It’s generally a good idea to book your rental car at least a few weeks ahead, especially during busy travel seasons. Booking early can help you secure your preferred car and may offer you a better deal.

To rent a car with us, a full driver's license is required. All Drivers must be at least 23 years of age and 25 years old to rent a 4WD. Overseas licenses are acceptable. An official translation is required if the license is not in English.
